VISITING SCHOLAR

Liam O'Shea

PhD Student, University of St. Andrews, School of International Relations

Have visited CISR February and May 2010.

"I am a PhD researcher studying crime and policing in the Former Soviet Union and my current project is a comparative study of policing and police reform in Russia, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan.
I spent nine-months at CISR from February-November 2010 as part of an Oversea's University Visit and a language extension, sponsored by the UK's Economic and Social Research Council. The aim of my research trip was to develop my language skills and familiarise myself with Russian texts on crime and policing. The staff at CISR, in particular, Boris Gladarev, were invaluable in helping me to conduct interviews with researchers and practitioners in St. Petersburg and Moscow and in introducing me to the latest research on policing in Russia."

Work is supported by: UK Economic and Social Research Council.
