“Observing the Observer:
“City” in the Eyes of Taxi Drivers, Taxi
Drivers in the eyes of a Sociologist”
The idea of “art-science” projects, which serves as the basis of this research project, will be discussed. In this case, a quick research project was conducted together with German artists on the theme “The City in the Eyes of Taxi Drivers.” We approached our work with the understanding/idea that taxi drivers are “everyday/life experts” who posses a deep, thorough knowledge of their city, “work” with it on a professional level, and have a definite perspective, which is rarely, if ever, demanded of other experts (bureaucrats, urban planners, architects, etc.). The eventual result of this joint work should be a film and art object based on this pilot study.
The workshop sessions will take place in the Department of Anthropology at European University in St. Petersburg (Gagarinskaya ulitsa, dom 3, 3rdfloor, room 92).
